Credentialing and accreditation exist for the purpose of verifying a level of adequacy. Whether individual talents of the technologist or the effectiveness of the organization as a whole, these institutions assure high standards are met and maintained.

Technologists at UIS are registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. The ARDMS is recognized worldwide and has existed since the first days of medical ultrasound. All other aspects of quality standards for cardiovascular ultrasound are set by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. (ICAVL) and also the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiographic Laboratories.(ICAEL) These organizations require proof of an ongoing dedication to training and quality which our lab views as essential, but strives daily to challenge those standards and invent processes which raise standards to new heights.
